Nicole McNiven-Corr
We are thrilled to have Nicole McNiven-Corr and her label, Avathletica, showcasing on Runway 2 at Toowoomba Fashion Festival 2025! Nicole brings her passion for fashion and design to life with her incredible athleisure sportswear brand, focusing on comfortable, functional, and stylish pieces that cater to the modern active lifestyle.
Avathletica: A Family Affair
Avathletica is a brand born out of Nicole’s desire to create sportswear inspired by her daughter’s sporting and health-conscious activities. This unique brand blends practicality with style, producing athleisure wear designed for both performance and comfort. The first collection, which will be showcased at the festival, takes inspiration from an unexpected source—medical scrubs.
Nicole and her daughter worked together to reimagine these functional garments, adding bold colours, dynamic patterns, and creative flair. Avathletica’s garments are not only designed for active living but also provide a fun, stylish twist on something that’s usually considered plain and utilitarian. The pieces are sized from tween to adult and cater to both genders, making the collection inclusive and versatile for all ages.
What's more, Nicole’s attention to detail goes beyond just aesthetics. The brand takes medical requirements into consideration, ensuring that every design element is both functional and thoughtful. Avathletica offers an elevated approach to activewear—ideal for those who want to feel confident and stylish while staying active.
A Journey Through Fashion
Nicole's passion for fashion has been lifelong, starting from her early childhood. She recalls watching her mother work on an industrial embroidery machine, where the love for craftsmanship was ignited. Spending hours watching her mother, Nicole was captivated by the beauty of the intricate work and soon started creating doll clothes. Her early experiences sparked a love for design that would shape her career.
Nicole’s path to becoming a designer was a natural progression. She studied Couture at TAFE and later embarked on a professional career that has spanned over three decades. Since 1992/3, Nicole has worked in various roles within the fashion industry, including at a fashion agency in West End and working internationally in London. She’s travelled the world researching trends and designing collections, continuously expanding her creative horizons.
Alongside her design work, Nicole also teaches at TAFE part-time, sharing her expertise and passion for fashion with the next generation of designers. Her dedication to both creating beautiful designs and educating others speaks volumes about her commitment to the fashion industry.
